The Notary will ask to see a current identification document that has a photograph, a physical description, and a signature. A

Yes, for many documents. Certain affidavits, real estate deeds, and other documents lose legal binding unless properly notarized.

May a Notary give legal advice or draft legal documents?

No. A Notary cannot prepare legal documents for others or act as a legal advisor unless also licensed as an attorney.
